1959 Edsel Ranger

This car has been sitting in this general area for a few years now, and I finally took photos of it with my digital camera yesterday before work. It’s moved up and down the street a few times during this era of its life; however, I’ve never seen it move from this stretch of road.

This is an Edsel Ranger—one of the few automobiles produced by Ford’s Edsel Division between 1957 and 1960. I believe this is a 1959. The run was wildly unpopular, lost Ford millions, and has been described as the wrong car at the wrong time.

Considering how poorly the Edsel Divison’s cars sold, they’ve become somewhat rare in the 21st century. According to the internet, it’s relatively easy to convert a Sunliner into an Edsel Ranger; however, I don’t think that’s the case here.

To my knowledge, none of these cars were produced in Metro Detroit or the Midwest. I’ve always been curious how it got here and why it’s idly sitting on one of Detroit’s most iconic thoroughfares.

Hopefully, someday, we’ll see this Edsel Ranger cruising through Southwest Detroit! The red paint job is asking to be driven.
