Pontiac Fiero

I’ve always loved Fieros. As a small child, I remember my uncle telling me how cheap and fun they were. Although I’ve never owned one, I’ve enjoyed them ever since.

The Fiero was introduced for the 1984 model year and was produced at the Pontiac Assembly. Production would never leave that facility, and the Fiero would only be made for a half-decade.

This was the first time Pontiac had released a two-seater in decades, and it was a unique mid-engine car from the Big Three automakers. The two-seater also got excellent gas mileage for the era.

However, they were plagued with a hot issue: they often caught fire. Well, often might not be the right word, but they caught fire more than other new 1980s cars.

If you browse Facebook Marketplace, you’ll find a handful of Fieros for prices that range from extraordinarily reasonable to completely outlandish. Regardless of their price, I’m always happy to see one cruising down the road or, in this case, parked outside an auto repair shop in Lansing.
